Conflict Research and Advocacy
Conflict research and advocacy are the pillars of our programmes. We use our research findings for advocacy purposes to influence policies to address root causes of conflicts. Our research focus are the the failed Juba Peace Processes, cross-border conflicts including the Lord’s Resistance Army activities, , return process, post-conflict reconstruction, small arms and light weapons, resource based conflicts including land conflicts, and transitional justice. GLACCR is in the process of designing a Conflict Early Warning System to help timely address conflict issues in the region.
Capacity Building
Our capacity building programmes consist of two components. The first component is the three months Certificate in Peace and Conflict Resolution training designed for people with no or very little background in peace and conflict resolution. The second component is the short training designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of those engaged in peacebuilding and conflict resolution.
The short trainings include DDR, Conflict Assessment, Mediation; Resource Based Conflict Management, Humanitarian Protection, Conflict sensitivity mainstreaming, Conflict Analysis System Tools, and others that can be arranged to meet specific capacity gaps of an organization’s staff. Democracy and Good Governance
GLACCR is committed to the democratization process in the region. Our focus is on promoting democratic and good governance principles including accountability and transparency. We work with young leaders to develop their capacity in democracy and good governance. GLACCR also works with the masses to strengthen their participation on matters that affect their lives. As the 2011 local, parliamentary, and presidential elections in Uganda are approaching, GLACCR is focusing on civic education and research and documentation of elections related conflicts in Northern Uganda. This is particularly important in consolidating peace in Northern Uganda.
