Securing Land Rights for Women Living with HIV / AIDS

Background


The project is supporting women living with HIV AIDS in Amuru district to secure land rights. In the long run, the project will enable women living with HIV/AIDS gain access to and control over land which is the primary factor of production. It will also address the deeply rooted cultural norms and practices that have denied women rights to own land in the communities. Securing land rights will also increase their productivity and standard of living and will leave HIV/AIDS orphaned children with total control over and ownership of land

Goal: To secure land rights for women living with HIV/AIDS in Amuru District.

Objectives

  • Sensitization and information dissemination on rights of women living with HIV/AIDS
  • Legal aid, alternative dispute resolution and mediation
  • Capacity building of local structures to protect the rights of women living with HIV/AIDS
  • Research and advocacy on land rights of women living with HIV/AIDS
  • Livelihood support to women living with HIV/AIDS

 

Beneficiaries


The beneficiaries are women living with HIV/AIDS and their immediate dependents. The indirect beneficiaries of the project are the community, local leaders, religious leaders, courts, police, cultural leaders and civil society organizations.
