Background


The project is strengthening the roles of the community in peacebuilding and reconciliation by providing a space and opportunity for engagement and dialogues with leaders on key issues that are affecting the resettlement and recovery processes in Amuru district. the project will also make leaders accountable to the people. The project is designed within the strategic objective of communication for peace of World Association of Christian Communication.

Purpose


To strengthen the role of community in peacebuilding and reconciliation through information dissemination and advocacy on key conflict issues affecting post-conflict resettlement and recovery of the population in Amuru district.

Project Objectives

  • Strengthening media and other communication practices that advance non-violent transformation of local and national conflicts
  • Promote media activities aimed at building culture of peace
  • Amplify the voices of women and men working to make peace possible

Project Activities

  • Sensitization meetings with key stakeholders to introduce to them the project and seek for their participation in the implementation of project activities
  • Baseline survey to establish baseline information for measuring impact of the project at the end.
  • Community debates on key conflict and issues affecting people in the process of resettlement and recovery.
  • Radio programmes to discuss key conflicts and issues affecting the population.
  • Production and dissemination of IEC materials focusing on conflict and key issues affecting the population in the process of resettlement and recovery. 
  • Training of media houses on conflict sensitive reporting.
  • Training of local council leaders in advocacy and lobbying skills.
  • Quarterly meetings with key stakeholders to review progress of the project

Beneficiaries


The direct beneficiaries are the formerly displaced persons who have just returned to their homes in Amuru district. The secondary beneficiaries are the local council leaders and the media houses who will be trained by the project, and the population of Northern Uganda at large who will benefit from information disseminated through radio programmes and IEC materials.
